Because we know it's comforting for you to know that you are in
line for a puppy in advance, we will now work with you if you
are sure you want a puppy from a certain mother/father beagle,
or if you want to reserve a puppy from a future litter in
general, such as due to the time of year or first availability.
It's often a bit of a bumpy process, especially if
more than one person is waiting on a litter. If we all work
together, it can go pretty smoothly (although it's a bit
challenging in the spring or at Christmas time, when
the list can become long!).
If you would like to reserve a puppy before it is born, or to get
the pick of the litter, please read the following before you
commit.

Pre-Reserving a Puppy
With Description/Explanation
- Chronological Order for picking puppies...We allow people to pick puppies in the order that
deposits are received.
The exception
to this would be that if we are keeping a puppy from a litter,
we will chose before offering other puppies up for choosing. We
don't force anyone to stick to a certain litter, gender, color,
etc. We go strictly by date of deposit placed, and anyone
wanting to wait can skip to allow the next person in line to
choose.
- Before Birth Deposits...To get the pick of the litter, your deposit will probably
have to be received before the births or immediately after the
births. Spring and early summer are particularly difficult, as
the greatest number of people want a puppy to come home in May
or June. In recent years, our spring puppies have all been
reserved before birth, leaving no puppies available for people
that wanted to reserve a puppy AFTER they were born.
Puppies leaving around Christmas time are
also sometimes all reserved before birth, depending upon how
many we have arrive in October.

Time Limit to Choose...A time limit for choosing must be followed, especially if
others are behind you wanting to choose their puppies. In other
words, we can't hold puppies very long, because other
people are behind you in line waiting to get to choose their
puppies.
- "The Timeline..." We "normally" take the puppies'
first pictures around 3 to 5 days of age, and about every two
weeks after that (approximately). In the past, we
allowed people to pick puppies beginning when they were about a
week old. In 2017, we began postponing that until they are
3 or possibly even 4 weeks old,
depending upon the mother of the litter and puppy sizes.
From the time we share photos and announce that we are ready for people to pick
puppies, we most often need everyone to pick
a puppy within 3 or 4 days. This is so the next people in
line can pick theirs, and the ones behind them can pick theirs,
if applicable...and still get done within a few days. We also have people waiting to place deposits, so
can't hold back puppy pictures for very long.
We'd like to have ALL of the pre-reserved
puppies picked within about 4 days of the time we share their
pictures with you and ask for your favorites list. If someone holds the process up too long, we
may have to skip you and/or refund your deposit. We don't
want this to happen, and hope everyone continues to work
together to make the process go nicely for all involved. :-)
- No competition? If nobody is in line behind you, we
may give you a few more days to choose. But when other people
inquire whether we have puppies available, we need to be able to
answer their questions and allow them to reserve a puppy. So, we
can't wait long.

Notice the dates....some of those on the Waiting List
have been "passing" on litters for a long time, waiting for the
right puppy or right time to get their puppy. Those families will
probably pass on
the next litter as well.
- Guarantees...Our normal guarantees apply for puppies. If we find that a
puppy has a fault before it leaves our home, which is rare, we
will offer you a refund, an exchange for another similar puppy,
or a partial refund if you choose to keep your puppy with the
fault.
- Pricing...Each
puppy is individually priced, with the amounts set according to
gender, color, markings, pedigree, and size. Our
Recently-Sold Puppies page "might"
give you an idea, although if the upcoming litter is
unique/different than recent litters (again, size or bloodlines,
seasonal demand,
number of puppies born, or special colors), then that page may not be very
representative.
Prices include sales tax. We
consider 93% of the price to be the puppy and fees, and the
other 7% is sales tax.
- Shipping...We
are currently not flying puppies alone as cargo on planes. We
are located in SW Iowa, about 2 hours each from Kansas City,
Omaha, and Des Moines. We have had a few people use
over-land transport, and we will likely say "yes" to
this if they only transport our dogs on that trip (in an attempt
to avoid your puppy getting sick from other dogs). Other
families have flown to Des Moines/Kansas City or Omaha and then
flown back with their puppy or rented a car for the return trip.

Issues
to Consider
- If you do not feel comfortable
picking your puppy as an infant based upon the parents, the
colors, markings, and gender, you should NOT place a deposit
before birth.
Puppies don't show their dispositions until they are
almost ready to leave us (and even at that time, their
personalities still change a great deal due to normal stages of
cognitive development all breeds of puppies progress through).
So, pre-reserving is only an option if you are comfortable with
the beagle breed as a whole, and you can choose a puppy while it
is still an infant.
- What if you are not first in line?
Will you be able to accept a different puppy if someone ahead of you
chooses the puppy you liked the best?

- Also, note that if you
reserve a pick of the litter, and later a puppy from the same
litter is offered at a reduced price, please know that your
puppy's price is not changed. Your
puppy's price was possibly set according to desirability, and
therefore may not be equal to a price for a different puppy. We sometimes
raise or lower unreserved
puppies' prices as they mature with many factors possibly
affecting this decision.
- Can you get a refund?
When
it's your time to pick, if you decide that you no longer
want a puppy from the litter, you can either wait until the next
litter or we will refund your deposit to you. Refunds
are available to those that pre-reserved a puppy, but never
reserved a particular puppy. If you find a puppy
elsewhere, or just decide you don't want to pick one of ours,
please feel free to request a refund. We don't mind! ;-)
If you paid via PayPal, we may refund whatever our net proceeds are (after
their small fee, usually less than $4) if PayPal doesn't refund
their fee. Sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't refund
the fee. The refund is usually between $96 and the full $100 of
the deposit paid, or between 96% and 100% of the total amount
paid toward a puppy.
- How many people are in line in
front of me?
Click here to

on that list. Note the dates....often, people on the list are
not intending to pick a puppy any time soon!
If the list is long, that does
not
mean you won't get a puppy soon. Some
people on the list are just waiting for the right time, and have
been waiting for a long time!
- Right to return your deposit at
our own choosing: Our puppies are precious
to us, and our puppies' new families are precious to us as well.
Occasionally, someone with a deposit already placed makes this
process of picking puppies very difficult. Usually, this is in
the form of delaying the process too long, which causes stress
to the rest of the families that are waiting to pick a puppy, as
well as to us here at CR Beagles.
If we feel that someone is just not the right fit for
pre-reserving a puppy, we do reserve the right to refund the
deposit and cancel the reservation. (2018: So far, this
has not happened, but there have been a couple times we should
have acted on this).

Phone Call Tips...
If your phone number is set to show "Restricted," I can't call
you back if I miss your call. If possible, please text me if I miss your call,
in case this has happened.
Increasingly, we get calls that our provider labels as "Suspected Spam."
I don't answer those any longer, although once, it was a real person inquiring
about a puppy!
